Why Youth ?
The City of Vancouver believes that youth have an incredible richness of talents and abilities to contribute to the development of a vibrant, healthy City. Our job as Youth Outreach Team members is to help find ways for the youth of Vancouver to share their expertise with City staff who share our goals - to make Vancouver an environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable city that cherishes, nurtures, welcomes, and celebrates people of all ages, from all backgrounds. We have a certain set of values that guide our approach. We believe that:
- all citizens (particularly youth!) have something to contribute
- building relationships is a powerful tool for social change
- partnerships and collaboration lead to better, stronger programs and healthier cities for all to enjoy
- involving youth experientially through community-based projects is a meaningful way of engaging youth
- building a strong foundation for youth involvement now, means a legacy of youth involvement later
