Family Court/Youth Justice Committee
The FCYJC is a civic agency that is responsible for a broad range of youth justice issues. Currently, the work of the Committee is divided into four subcommittees, three of which deal with (a) restorative justice, (b) aboriginal youth, and (c) justice through inclusive health. The Committee’s fourth subcommittee is a Youth Sub-Committee composed entirely of high school aged youth committed to informing the public about social issues that impact youth, families, and communities. The Committee believes that a youth voice is an essential means of assuring that the Committee is accountable to the youth it represents.
Members of this Sub-Committee can expect to attend two meetings per month, one specifically for Sub-Committee members and another involving all members of the FCYJC.
The Sub-Committee is involved with projects aimed at spreading the word on justice issues to youth throughout the city. For instance, this past December we held a Youth Justice Exhibition at City Hall which showcased justice-themed essays and photos submitted by Vancouver youth.
