Aboriginal
Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Association
The objectives of the KAYA project are to promote and raise awareness of youth-friendly ways for Urban Aboriginal youth in the Greater Vancouver Regional District to be informed advocates within their community. KAYA will encourage youth to take more interest in their community and invest their own time, energy, spirit, and ideas which will make them feel like an active and respected member of their community.
Two major themes of the project:
Promote and motivate societies, organizations, government, schools, and the Aboriginal community to respect youth and to reduce systemic barriers to youth participation.
Assist and encourage urban Aboriginal youth to express their opinions and decipher issues & processes so that they can make informed decisions that affect their own lives and life in their community.
