Safe Harbour Youth Ambassador Diversity Program
The Safe Harbour program promotes an inclusive BC that celebrates strong, vibrant, and diverse communities. Staff from businesses, agencies, and institutions attend a free, 2-hour training and leave with a greater awareness and appreciation of their community’s range of diversity and a commitment to equitable treatment for all. Someone who recognizes the Safe Harbour decal in their neighbourhood can enter knowing that their needs will be met as a newly-arrived immigrant, as an Aboriginal youth, or as someone who has a disability. Safe Harbours are places where staff and community members are creating a shared culture together, one that recognizes the value of social inclusion.
Built upon the success of Safe Harbour, the Youth Ambassador Diversity Program provides training to high school students to act as Youth Ambassadors - role models for other youth and facilitators of Children and Teen Workshops. The workshops address issues of racism and hate and educate children and youth about how to respond to discrimination by finding a safe harbour within their school or community or a safe adult to help. Youth are encouraged to work together to welcome and respect everyone’s differences no matter what culture, ethnicity, religion, class, age, ability, gender, or sexuality they represent. These youth are standing up for diversity and creating safer, more welcoming environments in their schools and communities.

Youth Action Effecting Change
Youth and the World Urban Forum - Vancouver 2006
"This website was created to kick off preparation for the World Urban Forum 2006 and to stimulate discussion and debate before, during and following the World Urban Forum 2006.
"The purpose of the Forum is to engage youth in discussions about urban sustainability and to create significant change across generations in the field of sustainable development. The United Nations has challenged Canada to develop a more interactive and participatory Forum and these papers aim to facilitate that goal. Thinking, dialogue, and conclusions formed prior to and during the World Urban Forum will also contribute to Canada's urban agenda and will help to create a long-term legacy of knowledge and action around sustainability issues in Canada and the World."
